E Street Band guitarist’s Wicked Cool label partners with Columbia to release “20 Feet From Stardom” singer’s “Introducing Darlene Love.”

Darlene Love, one of the background singers featured in the Academy Award-winning documentary 20 Feet From Stardom, is releasing her first new album in years. Due in early fall, Introducing Darlene Love will be issued through E Street Band guitarist Steven Van Zandt’s Wicked Cool label in partnership with Columbia Records.

Van Zandt arranged and produced the album, comprised of new and classic songs written by Elvis CostelloBruce SpringsteenJim WebbLinda PerryDesmond ChildJoan Jett and Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil, among others.

A member of ‘60s girl group the Blossoms, Love also became a sought-after backing vocalist with credits on recordings by Elvis PresleyFrank Sinatra and Dionne Warwick. The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s five-decade career includes working with legendary producer Phil Spector, yielding such hits as “He’s a Rebel” and “He’s Sure the Boy I Love.” The New York Times has extolled Love’s vocal talent as “a thunderbolt voice embedded in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.”

Van Zandt said this of signing Love: “The time was long overdue to show a younger generation why she has earned that reputation.”
