You know Darlene Love, but you might not know how important she is.

If you were around in the ’60s and tuned into “Shindig,” the music variety TV show on ABC, you saw her standing in the middle of the Blossoms, the black all-girl trio that sang backup for the artists who appeared on the program.

There was Love, smile aglow with a honey-blond bouffant, singing behind a dashing Sam Cooke, a doe-eyed Aretha Franklin, or the handsome Righteous Brothers.
