Finding Neverland, the Harvey Weinstein-produced musical based on Miramax’s 2004 movie starring Johnny Depp as Peter Pan creator JM Barrie, is due to open on Broadway in April. Bringing a bit of holiday cheer to Good Morning America earlier today, star Matthew Morrison (from the Paramount lot) introduced a live musical performance by his co-star, Laura Michelle Kelly, and the show’s composer, Gary Barlow, singing a medley of tunes from Times Square alongside Jo Lawry, Darlene Love, and Táta Vega of Weinstein’s Oscar-winning 20 Feet From Stardom. Finding Neverland follows the relationship between playwright JM Barrie and the family that inspired him to write Peter Pan. The story of how the boy who wouldn’t grow up came to be has had some growing pains of its own. A first tryout in the UK in 2012 led to the show being revamped, but then it went on to a sold-out run at the American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, Mass beginning this past July. Broadway previews begin on March 15 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre with April 15 as the opening. Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (Pippin) directs.
