At the Academy Awards, Darlene sang her powerful acceptance speech on behalf of all of the performers in the winning film Twenty Feet From Stardom. As she raised the Oscar, the entire house stood with a cheering ovation, led by the wildly applauding Bill Murray. It was another special moment in a great career. A GRAMMY Award soon followed for the soundtrack of the film.
Darlene Love Makes a Splash on Broadway!
Love has held many star roles in various Broadway productions. She acted and sang in Grease, in the short-lived musical adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, and starred as Motormouth Maybelle in Broadway’s Hairspray from August 2005 till April 2008. She later reprised the role in the Hollywood Bowl production of the show in 2011.
From Broadway to the Silver Screen
In the late 1980s and also in the 1990s, Love also began an acting career, playing Trish Murtaugh, the wife of Danny Glover’s character, in the four Lethal Weapon movies. In 2019, she appeared in the Netflix original movie Holiday Rush and Love recently appeared and sang in the Netflix original movie The Christmas Chronicles 2.

Darlene Love has over 40 credits on musical soundstracks ranging from movies to television series dating back to the 1960’s. Some of her soundtrack features include: The View, SNL, The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two, American Horror Story, Pose, Father of the Bride, GoodFellas, Gremlins, just to name a few!
Darlene Love Speaks at Providence College 2015 Commencement
Darlene Love, member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and star of Twenty Feet From Stardom, the Academy Award-winning documentary, will be delivering this year’s Commencement Address at Providence College’s Nintety-Seventh Commencement Exercises on May 17, 2015. Love will also be receiving an honorary doctorate in Music from the College.
